Two teenage suspects arrested for vehicle theft and assault in Oakville home invasion

Two 18-year-old suspects face more than a dozen charges as a result, and police are looking for more suspects they believe were involved.

Two 18-year-old suspects have been arrested in connection with a home invasion in Oakville. 16 charges have been laid between the two suspects and police are still looking for more who may have been involved.

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at approximately 2:25 am, multiple suspects entered a home on Bellwood Avenue in Oakville, forcing open the front door of the residence.

The suspects proceeded to a bedroom where they were confronted by an adult male resident demanding money. During the confrontation, the victim was hit in the head, face and upper body. The suspects were able to obtain the key to a Mercedes sedan parked in the driveway. The suspects then stole the car and fled.

After being hit by the suspects, the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau from two districts took over the investigation. Following continued investigations, in the late afternoon of November 7, 2024, two suspects were arrested in Toronto and the stolen Mercedes was recovered.

Superintendent Dave Costantini, commander of Oakville’s 2nd District, called the incident “incomprehensible” and “incomprehensible.”

“Breaking into a home at 2am, violently assaulting a sleeping resident as he lay in bed, all in an effort to steal his car. Two criminals arrested while occupying victim’s stolen car, charged with previous offences. Our officers will continue. to relentlessly pursue all those who threaten the safety and security of our residents.”

Jayden Batiste (18) of Vaughan, was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Robbery
  • Break and Enter
  • Possession of proceeds of crime – Over $5000
  • Escape from legal custody
  • Car theft
  • Disguise with intent
  • Fraudulent use of a credit card
  • Failure to comply with a release order

Batiste was held in custody pending a bond hearing in Milton.

Dyante Johnson, 18, of Brampton, was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Robbery
  • Break and Enter
  • Possession of proceeds of crime – Over $5000
  • Escape from legal custody
  • Car theft
  • Disguise with intent

Johnson was held in custody pending a bond hearing in Milton.

Police are looking for other suspects and the investigation continues. Anyone with information regarding this investigation or anyone who may have witnessed suspicious vehicles or persons in the area of ​​Bellwood Avenue, Constance Drive and Duncan Road around the time of the incident is asked to contact the 2nd District Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 905-825 – 4777 int. 2216.
