Hammond police officer, 2 people injured in car crash, officials sayA Hammond police officer and two people were injured in a hit-and-run accident Friday night at 169th and Southeastern avenues.

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) — A Hammond police officer and two people were injured in a crash involving a squad car Friday night, officials said.

It happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of 169th and Southeastern avenues, police said.

The squad car was traveling west on 169th when another vehicle traveling south on Southeastern ran a red light and collided with the squad car.

Two passengers inside the vehicle were taken to Munster Community Hospital, police said. Their conditions are unknown.

Hammond police said they are actively investigating and will release further updates as more information becomes available.
