A San Diego-based company has launched an off-grid solar-powered system that could help provide much-needed resources to areas in need.

Conformable ElectrekBeamGlobal’s BeamWell is a fully solar powered desalination and water mobility system. It provides drinking water, transport and energy for crisis areas. It is self-sufficient and portable, making it perfect for deployment in war zones and areas experiencing the aftermath of natural disasters.

“We see more wars and natural disasters like the recent ones the hurricanes in the US, becoming all too common,” said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley. “Forty percent of the world’s population lives near the sea in areas prone to natural disasters. With BeamWell, we are addressing three critical needs in crisis situations: clean water , electricity and mobility to distribute aid. Beam Global is on a mission to make a real difference to those who are suffering.”

BeamWell desalinates 3,000 liters of water every day, stored in a tank attached to the system. It also has four Benzina Zero electric mopeds to help distribute resources quickly and provide power for any needs that may arise. It is portable, can fit in a shipping container and requires no construction upon arrival.

System key is attached solar panelswhich powers all the necessary parts and also provides electricity that can power other things such as medical equipment or computer systems.

We’ve seen more and more creative uses of solar energy in recent months. Scientists have made significant leaps in materials such as perovskite cells continue to become more viable. Japanese scientists have disclosure a solar-powered van that’s described as “an extended living room.” And researchers have discovery some profound benefits of agriculture around solar panels.

Beam Global is ready to deploy the BeamWell system soon, with plans to send them to war-torn areas in the Middle East.
