Why West Indies suspended Alzarri Joseph for two matches

Alzarri Joseph picked two wickets for West Indies in the third ODI against England.

West Indies beat England in the third and final game of the three-match ODI series to win the series comprehensively 2-1.

The game in Barbados saw the hosts restrict England to a total of 263 before chasing it down comfortably to record an eight-wicket victory. Alazarri Joseph was one of the stars of the West Indies bowling line-up, returning with impressive bowling figures of 2/45 in his 10 overs.

However, despite his excellent performance, Joseph found himself at the center of controversy during England’s batting innings. Alzarri’s action resulted in a two-match disciplinary suspension.

Why West Indies suspended Alzarri Joseph for two matches

The controversy came in England’s fourth innings when Joseph expressed his frustration with the fielding in front of captain Shai Hope. Having dismissed Jordan Cox on the fourth ball of the over, Joseph expressed his dissent by not joining his teammates and immediately returned to his mark.

After his passing, Joseph left the field without informing his captain or the management, leaving the hosts with just 10 players on the field. Alzarri returned to the field for the sixth over but departed again after two bowling errors.

Joseph returned again to complete his spell, but his actions greatly disappointed the team’s management, leading to a two-game suspension for the youngster.

The West Indies management is addressing the incident

Speaking to TalkSPORT after the match, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed his disappointment. sammy said, “Such behavior is unacceptable on my cricket ground. We’ll be friends…but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a discussion about it“.

In his post-match statement, Sammy emphasized the importance of building a good team culture, he added: “I pride myself on having the difficult conversations, but in a way where everyone understands what needs to be done. I feel proud to see guys going there and slowly progressing in the right direction. There’s still a lot to do, but it’s one I’m quite passionate about.

West Indies will now host England in a five-match T20I series starting November 10.
