Hope COS helped the homeless in Colorado Springs during the winter storm

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A group with I hope COS went to Dorchester Park Friday night with wagons full of winter gear, food and water to help the homeless in Colorado Springs stay warm during the winter.

“They don’t deserve to be cold and miserable if we can help them get through that miserable time, that’s why we do it,” said Hope COS Communications Coordinator Jesse Sandlin. “People have shared with me, so I try to share and give back.”

With temperatures dropping overnight, the team with Hope COS tells 11 News it’s even more important to reach as many people as possible. The team has been out several times a day for the past three days.

“At this point in their mind, they have no other options, so you want to let them know to keep them warm and keep them alive,” said volunteer coordinator with Hope COS Robyn Czyz. “Our goal is to keep them warm and alive.”

Some at Hope COS tell 11 News they’ve been homeless before and know how important something like a new jacket or even a pair of socks can be.

“We know what it’s like to be on the streets. We know what it’s like to be unappreciated and thought of as an outcast. We just want to make people feel loved and appreciated,” CZYZ said.
