Two Pittsburgh Steelers veterans could return after long injury absences

After prolonged injury absences, the Pittsburgh Steelers could return two players against the Washington Commanders. Linebacker Tyler Matakevich and receiver Ben Skowronek both suffered injuries against the Denver Broncos and were placed on injured reserve. They haven’t played since that game, but after both logged full practices this week, there’s a chance they could both return.

Matakevici pulled his hamstring and remained on the sidelines. However, he has started working in recent weeks and now looks ready to return to his core special crew role. With his return, the Steelers would also get a boost to their inside linebacker depth.

Skowronek was a tuner and blocking specialist at wide receiver when he played. After acquiring Mike Williams, it’s unclear exactly how he’ll fit into the rotation, but Skowronek could still be sidelined for another week while he works out. He suffered a shoulder injury and was then lifted from the practice squad and immediately placed on injured reserve.

Whichever player is expected to return against the Commanders, the Steelers must make roster moves before the game as they still have 53 players.
