No reform will benefit the nation unless the government improves the education sector, Shafiqul Islam Masud, secretary of Dhaka South unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, said today (9 November).

“The Awami League government has created policies to destroy the nation in the name of education policies,” he said while unveiling a book, titled “Controversial Awami League Curriculum” written by Shahed Matiur Rahman at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

“Therefore, Islamic ideals in education policy should be instilled by reforming the sector,” said Shafiqul, also a member of the Jamaat’s central executive board.

In a separate event, Jamaat deputy general secretary and former MP AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad said his party believes in freedom of the press.

“We must not forget that in the last 16 years there have been various cases in which journalists have been subjugated. Sagar-Runi’s murder case has not yet been brought to justice. (Many) journalists were attacked, sued and threatened. Some were forced. to leave the country We always wanted an end to this situation and now there is no more fearful atmosphere.

“A new conspiracy has started against the country’s independence with various attempts at provocation. We must be vigilant. Be aware. We must stop this,” he said.
