Andhra Pradesh Pawan Kalyan claims drug peddlers thrived under YSRCP regime

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Saturday launched a scathing tirade against the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, accusing it of fostering a climate where the drug mafia could thrive. He argued that the current NDA government has inherited this problem, requiring urgent intervention to tackle drug trafficking and narcotics-related criminal activities.

“Drugs have become a menace in the state,” Kalyan said, stressing the need for a focused approach to control drug networks, ganja cultivation and related crime.

Taking X, Deputy Andhra CM: “Sometime back seizure of a cocaine shipment at Visakhapatnam port and drugs seized elsewhere in the country linked to a trading company in Vijayawada shows that the drug mafia flourished well under the previous regime “.

“A comprehensive plan of action is needed to combat these criminals,” he added.

Earlier, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who led the YSRCP government, refuted the allegations, saying that the YSRCP was falsely implicated in drug-related cases. Referring to a significant haul of drugs seized in March at the Visakhapatnam port, Reddy alleged that the charges against the YSRCP were politically motivated. He clarified that the trading company involved is associated with the family of BJP state president Purandeshwari’s sons, not YSRCP.

“If there is any crime, they falsely accuse YSRCP,” Reddy remarked, drawing parallels with past cases and historical grievances, including his reference to the political betrayal of former Andhra Chief Minister NT Rama Rao (NTR).
