News4 Announces 2024 Peoples’ Choice!

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – The regular season for high school football has come and gone.

In addition to seeing some incredible action on the field, it’s no secret that we’ve been eating well this season under the Friday night lights.

News4 had the pleasure of traveling from school to school to put their best-selling menu items to the Friday Night Foodie taste test.

Now, it’s time for the play-offs. This year, we wanted to have a little fun and hear what your favorite menu item was this season. Let’s take a trip down memory lane.

Gastronomy fans started the season in Dale County to try Warrior’s best-selling seasoned fries. Each batch is seasoned to perfection. Of course we had to top them with cheese, what’s a football game without cheesy fries?

We packed up our gear and went on a hike Geneva County to get a taste of the decades-old chili dog recipe. This is a family recipe. Did you know they have a back window to sell them to people who aren’t even into the game? Be sure to grab a bite the next time you drive by on a fall Friday night.

Early County was on the roster this season. News4 crossed state lines to order chili cheese nachos. The Bobcats are proud of their homemade chili.

When you think of a football game, a burger often comes to mind. That’s why I went to Abbeville to put this classic menu item to the test. It’s the return of Hive Nation and these burgers are worth coming home to.

The west side of the Wiregrass is known for its hotdogs. from Geneva the classic dogs were a hit. Every bite is grilled to perfection.

Week five was a blast from the past with Slocombe cordogs. We first tried them at the National Peanut Festival fair in 2023, but we loved them so much we had to encourage the Red Tops to eat one. These are a tradition for this school.

The Houston County The Lions did not disappoint with their grilled nachos. Like many of these concession stands, this barbecue is a family recipe. That makes you love and cherish every bite so much. This grill has been tossed on chips, fries, and sandwiches.

Seventh week we returned to the hounds Cottonwood’s best selling sausage dogs. The secret to great taste must remain in the bears den, but fans loved every bite.

News4 took a trip to Kinston to try not one, but two of their delicious dishes. What’s dinner without dessert? We started the meal with chicken fingers with homemade BBQ sauce and topped it off with a sweet cake. Savory and sweet for the best of both worlds at a football game.

As the season winds down, so does the clock at the National Peanut Festival. The week of festivities we headed into Carroll for their famous boiled peanuts. Eagles flocked to the concession stand for this fast seller.

To end the gastronomic season on Friday night, we went to Coffee County to put Enterprise Wildcats burgers to try. Something special about this trip, this menu item was sports supporting sports. These burgers were fried by the head baseball coach and pitching coach to feed football fans. It was a night full of school spirit and Wildcat pride.

So we ask: What was your favorite item on Friday night’s Foodie menu? Vote in our poll below (or click here if the survey does not appear) and we’ll reveal the winner on our Friday Night Football show on November 8.
