TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Police in Toledo are asking for the community’s help in finding a man accused of murder.

Detectives have issued a warrant for Deondrae Ballard in connection with the murder of a young mother.

“I just want everyone to know that she was a good mother,” the victim’s daughter said.

Elisei Meraz’s family misses her every day.

The 32-year-old woman was shot and killed outside a bar near Church Street and Prentice Avenue last month.

Her daughter said her mother had a caring heart.

“You know some of the kids that don’t have things to give them like clothes, shoes, gloves, hats and things like that. Even the kids here that come and play didn’t really have things and we were giving them things and snacks and just stuff like that,” the daughter said.

Toledo police are looking for Ballard, who detectives have charged with murder.

Police said the young mother was not the intended target.

The victim’s family said Meraz did not know Ballard and was caught in the crossfire.

“At first I was like my mother. I couldn’t believe it at first,” said the victim’s daughter.

The victim’s family hopes you will contact the police if you see Deondrae Ballard.

Toledo police say you could be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 if you can help them find Ballard.
