UWS shooting: Person of interest in custody after man shoots boss in NYC’s Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — A person of interest was taken into custody Friday morning in shooting on the upper west side which caused chaos in the metro system on Thursday morning.

Charges are pending against Eduardo Diaz, 42, of Queens.

Authorities believe Diaz was a disgruntled former employee at a computer store near 68th Street and Columbus Avenue who shot his former boss after being fired.

The suspect fired at least a half-dozen times, hitting the victim twice in the leg and in the shoulder.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside and is expected to survive. His workers were too agitated to speak on camera, but told Eyewitness News they were doing well.

Diaz’s search led to temporary subway delays in Manhattan as he fled to the subway station at 72nd Street and Central Park West.

Authorities shut off the power so officers could walk the tracks in case the suspect was hiding in the subway tunnel north of the station.

Some passengers had to be evacuated and trains A/B/C/D were delayed for the investigation.

In addition, some subway riders said they were told to lie on the floor of the train while police searched for the suspect.

Investigators believe the suspect may have left the subway through an emergency exit at 76th Street and continued to search for him in Central Park Thursday afternoon.
