A man has died after being attacked by the pack in south Kansas City, police said

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man died after being mauled by a pack of dogs in south Kansas City, Missouri, last Saturday, police said.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, police responded to the 3200 block of East 80th Street for reports of an animal attack.

Police were told multiple dogs were attacking the victim, whose family identified to KSHB 41 News as Chris Culbertson.

A second victim contacted police and told them she had been attacked.

Culbertson was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, family and police told KSHB 41 News.

Angela Culbertson shared photos of her brother, Chris Culbertson, telling KSHB 41 she wants people to remember him as a happy man who loved his family, construction work and living his life.

She also shared a surveillance video of him from a camera that captured the attack on Culbertson.

The video shows he was riding his bicycle on East 80th Street when a group of dogs began attacking him on the street.

Culbertson said the 23-minute video shows seven dogs mauling their brother before help arrived.

“I want justice for my brother and everyone else dealing with these vicious dogs,” said Angela Culbertson. “So many dogs came; he could no longer fight them; he tried to reach out, but he just couldn’t.”

She described the end of the video as an effort by firefighters, police and SWAT team officers trying to stop the attack before he was taken to the hospital.

“The doctor said there were over 300 dog bites, over 500 stitches and 100 lacerations,” said Angela Culbertson. “They tore off his cheek, his chin, the heels of his feet.”

KCPD and the Kansas City Pet Project are investigating the incident.

“The owners should be to blame for that because they trained them to be vicious that way,” Angela Culbertson said.

Chris Culbertson’s family said the seven dogs were still at the address and the fence appeared broken; waiting to hear from KC Pet Project about precautions and measures taken.

“I don’t understand how a dog can attack a human and nothing happens to them, nor do the people who own the dogs who train them to be aggressive and mean to people face criminal charges. she said.

KSHB 41 News asked police about those claims and did not hear back.

KSHB 41 video shows the address in question appeared to have a fence with holes and a dog was outside.

The second victim was transported in serious condition to the hospital in the area.
