Out or not out? India A left fuming over Marcus Harris’ controversial call

India-A were left red-hot on Day 2 of the second unofficial Test against Australia-A as Marcus Harris survived a very close call in Melbourne on Friday 8 November. The incident occurred when Harris, a Border-Gavaskar Trophy hopeful, was batting on 48 and facing Tanush Kotian.

Right-arm spinner Kotian came around the wicket to play to Harris, delivering a classic off-break that went into the left-hander before turning sharply. The ball eventually landed in the fielder’s hands at first slip, but there was uncertainty as to whether it came off Harris’ bat or just on his thigh. India A were visibly frustrated by the umpire’s choice to give no decision, firmly believing that the ball had hit Harris’ bat.

Harris went on to complete his fifty balls later and went on to score 74 runs, before being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. Australia A will continue to take the lead on Day 2 as India-A were bundled out for just 161 runs in Melbourne.

Harris is one of the players being scouted by Australia’s selectors for the opening spot as they look for a partner for Usman Khawaja in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Australia-A collapses early

Harris resumed his innings on Friday morning, unbeaten on 26 alongside Sam Konstas at the crease. Konstas was dismissed LBW for three in just the second over of the day, followed by Ollie Davies, who fell for 13 after a mistimed attempt at mid-on.

It was Khaleel Ahmed who opened the door for India on Day 2 with the wicket of Konstas before Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh joined.

Beau Webster also had a short stay, reaching second slip for five. Jimmy Peirson eventually gave Harris some stability, adding 68 for the sixth wicket with the opener before Peirson was dismissed for 30.
