Community shocked after 68-year-old woman found in freezer, roommate arrested

A welfare check from an employee at a mobile home park came to a grisly end Wednesday.

She was a woman who was found dead in a freezer in her house.

An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a 68-year-old woman who lived in the mobile home park near Nellis and Vegas Valley Drs.

Daniel Roush, who was described as a possible roommate, was taken into custody Wednesday at the victim’s home.

Roush appeared before a judge Thursday.

Court records show he was charged with open murder.

Marsha Carr, who lives in the community, says she has known the victim for more than 6 years.

Carr also says, “It’s just scary. We are old. Many of us live alone in the community.”

The victim was often seen walking her dog around the neighborhood.

Other neighbors told News3 the victim recently allowed a man and a woman to move in.

Kyle Pataki lives next door to the victim.

Pataki says he had never seen any roommates and didn’t know anyone else was staying there besides “Monique.”

Lt. Jason Johnasson says, “We do these welfare checks, we look for anything that might match the size of the person, we called a locksmith and we found a body that matched the description of the person that lived at the house.”

The identification, along with the cause and manner of death, will be communicated by the coroner.

Roush is scheduled to return to court.
