Marquette celebrates new building with ribbon cutting

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The new UP Health Systems – Marquette (UPHS) the building officially opened in September, and the Lake Superior Community Partnership celebrated with a ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon.

The new medical office building houses the Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, the UP Regional Blood Center and the UP Bariatric Institute, all part of the old campus.

UPHS – Marquette CEO Tonya Darner said there was no room on the current campus, so they revitalized an old building.

“We needed to find another location to be able to house the services and we didn’t have the space on the current hospital campus and this space was available and we were delighted to be able to use a property that just happened to be vacant and turn it into this beautiful complex which it’s today,” Darner said.

Darner says the switch between buildings saw only a one- to two-day service interruption.

Darner says he hopes easy access to the campus will increase blood donations at the UP Regional Blood Center and visitors from the UP Bariatric Institute and Outpatient Behavioral Health Services.
