Former Jets HC ‘Hates’ New England Patriots QB

The New England Patriots they have a franchise quarterback in Drake Maye. That became clear already this season in his rookie year after being selected with the No. 1 overall pick. 3 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Maye has already given the Patriots a clear reason to be excited moving forward.

At the same time that he gave New England a big reason to believe in him, Maye also gave rival teams reasons to “hate” him.

Former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan he spoke his thoughts about Maya. He is very unhappy that the Patriots found themselves a quarterback as talented as the 22-year-old signal sounder.

Ryan specifically talked about the last play of regulation in last week’s game, where Maye pulled off a miraculous touchdown to send the game into overtime. He then went on to share his overall opinion of the rookie quarterback.

“I hated this play,” Ryan said. “You know why I hated the play? Because this New England kid is a stud. This quarterback is a stud. I hate to see.”

So far this season, Maye has shown elite arm talent, great confidence, high football IQ and even better leadership. He’s had rough times, like all rookies, but he’s handled them at an elite level.

Maye completed 65.6 percent of his pass attempts for 770 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. He also racked up 209 yards and a touchdown.

Of course, he has a lot of work to do and a lot of development that needs to be done for him to be a true star. However, he has the right attitude and talent to get to that level.

It will be interesting and fun to watch Maye develop over the next few years. If he hits the cap, Ryan and the Jets will hate that New England took him even more.

Maye could very well lead the Patriots to an AFC contender.
