One was arrested after a gun outside the Hewitt workplace

A 37-year-old man was arrested at a local hospital Wednesday after police say he shot an employee outside a Hewitt workplace, then was hit by the employee’s return fire.

Demagio Rashad was booked into the McLennan County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Hewitt police responded to reports of shots fired around 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Alliance Parkway, the affidavit states. A man there reported Person shot him multiple times, according to the affidavit.

The person fled before officers arrived, the affidavit states.

“The victim stated that he arrived and parked at his place of work and the suspect, who was already there, fired and blocked him,” officers wrote in the document.

The person confronted the man, sprayed him with pepper spray, then tried to shoot him “multiple times” with an assault rifle, according to the document. The other man fired back, hitting Person twice, the affidavit says.

Officers later found Person at a nearby hospital, where he was driving himself to treat gunshot wounds, according to the affidavit.

The person declined to speak to authorities about the incident, the affidavit states. The person’s vehicle had multiple bullet holes and a shotgun was “in view behind the center console,” according to the affidavit.

The person remained in the McLennan County Jail Thursday afternoon with bail listed at $500,000.
