Gold cop hit and killed on icy highway identified

GOLDEN, Colo. (KKTV) – The City of Golden has identified the officer killed in a crash while working on an icy road Wednesday night.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, three Gold officers were working the scene of the crash on Highway 58 just before 5 p.m. The place is just east of Washington Avenue, on a curved passage. While two of the three officers were standing outside along the road manning the scene, the State Patrol says a car drove into the front of the scene, striking both officers and forcing them under the initially crashed vehicle. One of the policemen died and the other suffered serious injuries.

On Thursday, the officer killed in the crash was identified as 33-year-old Officer Evan Dunn. The city said he is survived by his wife, Annalise, and dog, Remy, as well as his parents and two brothers.

CBS Denver says he was called to serve both country and community after serving in the military before becoming a police officer.

“He was an amazing human being. He had a long, stoic career in the military where he flew Black Hawk helicopters and served as a commander,” Golden Police Chief Joe Harvey told CBS Denver. “He will be survived by a wonderful wife, sister and parents. Domestically, he will be survived by 71 members of his Golden family.”

The State Patrol announced Thursday that troopers have arrested Stephen Geer, 43, in connection with the crash and that Geer has been charged with multiple felonies, including vehicular homicide involving DUI, two counts of assault vehicle involving DUI and failure to comply. “Moving over” law.

The State Patrol and numerous other Colorado law enforcement agencies sent their condolences to Dunn’s friends and family.

“Our thoughts are with the members of the Golden Police Department and the friends and families of the officers involved,” the State Patrol said.
