Manitoba news: End of legislative session includes worker replacement ban, machete rules

WINNIPEG –

Manitoba politicians are expected to pass more bills before the likely end of the legislative session tonight.

The NDP government, with a solid majority of seats, is moving its omnibus budget bill closer.

It adopts tax changes outlined in the spring budget, but also includes unrelated items such as a ban on replacing workers during labor disputes.

The bill would also make it easier for workers to unionize and increase deductions for political campaign expenses.

Another bill expected to be passed tonight would impose new restrictions on the sale of fakes in a bid to crack down on crime.

Among the bills not expected to pass this session is one that makes it harder for landlords to raise rents above the rate of inflation.
