WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) – A man arrested in connection with a sexual assault incident in Waterbury is facing charges in a separate incident, police said.

Michael Dewitt, 45, of Seymour, was charged with first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

The charges stemmed from a past sexual assault incident involving a minor, police said Thursday.

The female victim reported that on September 28, she was walking home when she was pulled into a vehicle driven by a male suspect, later identified as Dewitt.

Investigators determined that while inside the vehicle, Dewitt sexually assaulted the victim. The victim was not physically injured during the incident, police said.

Detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant on October 25, 2024 charging Dewitt with the crimes.

“It should also be noted that (Waterbury) detectives also recently gave Dewitt an active warrant for his arrest on October 15, 2023″, said Lt. Ryan Bessette, Waterbury Police. “This warrant was for charges related to another separate sexual assault investigation involving a minor that occurred on October 9, 2024 in Waterbury. In this previous incident, a female victim was similarly lured into a pickup truck owned by Dewitt and subsequently sexually assaulted.”

Dewitt remained in the custody of the state Department of Corrections on $550,000 bond and was scheduled to receive that bond at his scheduled arraignment date Thursday.

The warrant has a court ordered bond of $750,000.

Dewitt was also wanted by New Haven police for a previous sexual assault investigation that also involved a minor, Waterbury police said.
