Recall petition language against Councilman Flint rejected; new language submitted

FLINT, MI (WNEM) – The recall petition language against Flint’s Ward 8 alderman was rejected Thursday morning. However, following the adjournment, new withdrawal language was submitted.

The Genesee County Board of Elections held a hearing in Circuit Court in downtown Flint Thursday morning, Nov. 7, where it rejected the language of the recall petition against Dennis Pfeiffer.

The commission said it rejected the petition for lack of clarity.

The recall petition’s language was filed alleging that Pfeiffer claimed another council member was a “fake (expletive) Republican” and “most of (the statement)” and told other colleagues to “shut up mouth”.

Genesee County Clerk Dominique Clemons said that after the hearing was adjourned, Lisa Pasbjerg, a Flint resident, filed a new recall petition against Pfeiffer.

“It was only rejected due to language clarity issues. So, I will immediately renew and take their suggestions to make the language clearer,” she said.

The new language of Pasbjerg’s petition states: “On 03/25/24, Mr. Pfeiffer was censured for conduct unbecoming a city councilor, resolution number 240112.”

However, she said there are several reasons why she is requesting a new recall.

“There have been a lot of other issues, including, recently, a high absenteeism rate, a recent joint effort with other council members to block the appointment of a third ward council representative,” she said. “He posted some very inflammatory anti-trans language earlier this year that was really derogatory and offensive.”

Clemons said an election commission meeting to review the language has not yet been scheduled.
