Neither party has a dominant path to a House majority

House contests remain a toss-up battle, with no dominant path to a majority for either party. Rarely, if ever, have the two houses of Congress flipped in opposite directions.

Among those watched are the grueling races around the “blue dot” in Omaha, Nebraska and as far away as Alaska.

Updates on the last two presidential races left to call

With a victory in Wisconsin early Wednesday, Trump eliminated the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. But his exact margin of victory is still unclear — there are two presidential races the AP has yet to call:

Arizona: Officials in Arizona’s Maricopa County said late Wednesday that they had more than 700,000 ballots left to count, meaning the presidential and senate races were too early to call. In all, the AP estimates at least one million ballots will be added to the Arizona results. County election officials are expected to confirm those numbers Thursday.

Nevada: The AP estimated late Wednesday that there are more than 200,000 ballots left to be counted in Nevada, including more than 130,000 in Clark County. Given the narrow margins in the presidential and US Senate races, both are too early to call. The AP will continue to analyze the results released by Nevada election officials on Thursday.

Control of the US House hangs in the balance, with enormous implications for Trump’s agenda

The U.S. House majority hung in the balance on Wednesday, teetering between Republican control that would usher in a new era of unified GOP rule in Washington or a swing to the Democrats as the last line of resistance to the Trump White House’s second-term agenda.

A few individual seats, or even one, will determine the outcome. Final counts will take some time, likely pushing the decision into next week – or beyond.

After Republicans won a majority in the US Senate, picking up seats in West Virginia, Ohio and Montana, House Speaker Mike Johnson predicted his chamber would be next in line.

“Republicans are ready to have a unified government in the White House, Senate and House,” Johnson said Wednesday.
