The judge in Trump’s hush money trial is considering overturning the felony conviction

The Manhattan judge who oversaw Donald Trump’s criminal trial will now consider whether to throw out the president-elect’s historic murder conviction before he returns to the White House.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan has already delayed the sentence more than four months after the election — and has until Tuesday to decide whether the conviction should stand, CNN said.

He will face intense pressure from the president-elect’s legal team, which now wants to “make sure the conviction never happens,” CNN chief legal affairs correspondent Paula Reid said Wednesday night.

“Here, they’re going to argue to the judge that the sentencing should never happen because Trump is now president-elect,” Reid noted.

“They’re going to say he’s entitled to the same constitutional protections as a sitting president and should be protected from state actors and, in this case, state prosecutors.”

Trump, 78, faces up to four years in prison after being convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up payments to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Legal experts have already predicted that Trump will face no difficulty.

“Merchan doesn’t have the stomach to lock up a former president or a president-elect,” said former prosecutor Neama Rahmani.

“Now that Trump has won, his criminal problems are disappearing.”
