Salem woman charged with arson | News, Sports, Jobs

LISBON — A Salem woman accused of starting a fire that put two firefighters and several residents at a Salem apartment building at risk of injury is charged with two counts of arson.

Alicia Craig, 33, East State Street, was served a secret indictment Tuesday by a Columbiana County Grand Jury on the two first-degree felony charges for the May 2, 2024 fire.

According to a previous story about the fire at the East Sixth Street property, all residents were able to get out without injury when they were alerted by smoke detectors and exited the building before the Salem Fire Department arrived.

One firefighter suffered minor burns after his coat caught fire, forcing him to exit the structure to put it out. Another firefighter injured his knee during the overhaul process after the fire was extinguished. Both the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Salem Police Department investigated the fire.
