Although two states are left to be named, Trump has 295 electoral voteswhile Harris has 226.

The inauguration is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025, at the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC

When will Donald Trump’s second term end?

The next presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2028. The next president will be sworn in on Saturday, January 20, 2029.

What does the Constitution say about presidential term limits?

The the 22nd amendmentratified in February 1951states that a president can serve only two terms. Here is part of it:

“No person shall be elected to the office of President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President for more than two years in a term for which another person has been elected president shall not be elected to the office of president more than once.”

Has a sitting president ever served more than two terms?

Yes. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd president, served from 1933 to 1945. Roosevelt won four terms and it was the longest session president in US history.

Roosevelt’s tenure ultimately led to the ratification of the 22nd Amendment, according to National Center of the Constitution.

Has a sitting president ever tried to run for more than two terms?

Several past presidents sought a third term in office before the 22nd Amendment: Ulysses S. Grant, Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, and Theodore Roosevelt.

Has any president ever won non-consecutive elections?

Yes. Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States. He first served in 1885 to 1889 and later in 1893 to 1897.

Other unsuccessful presidents tried to gain such conditions. Trump is only others president to enter a non-consecutive mandate.
