Hiker shares video of disturbing scene along trail at popular state park: ‘Find the culprits’

Ah, beautiful outdoors. The Chattahoochee River flowing, birds chirping in the distance, and a few native Starbucks cups resting by the tree. Yeah, that last one doesn’t fit at all.

Unfortunately, something like that maddening rubbish is a too familiar view for hikers everywhere.

A hike shared by Redditor a video of the disturbing scene at the aptly named r/slightly annoying subreddit.

In the video, allegedly taken at Ford Island Park in Georgia, Redditor showed a plastic A Starbucks cup and a paper cup leaning against a tree in an otherwise idyllic scene. They said there was still ice in one of them, indicating that the criminals were not far away.

The Reddit user was beside themselves, using plenty of colorful language to describe the scene. Their frustration is understandable because this is a massive problem in our parks.

Some 100 million kilograms of waste is generated annually in America’s national parks. In addition to being an eyesore and spoiling the optics of a pleasant nature trip, leaving litter can a lot of damage.

In the case of the plastic cup, it might it lasts for centuries for it to break down while posing a health hazard and a hazard to the local ecosystem. This includes animals that might ingest it terrible results.

Whoever left the trash next to the tree is in direct violation the biggest rule in hiking: leave no traces. This is out of respect for nature and your fellow visitors.

Commenters on Reddit were enraged by the blatant rubbish and hoping that there will be consequences for the perpetrators.

Do you think America is doing a good job of protecting its natural beauty?

“Find the culprits and tell them to throw out the trash.” one suggested. The original poster said that they tried that, but frustratingly didn’t find anyone.

“If we funded parks, we could have more rangers,” said the Redditor he pointed out. They added that more rangers would increase the chances of littering visitors being “brought to justice!”
