Family of Toledo shooting victim speaks out

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Zayn Disher’s family told 13 Action News their lives will never be the same.

On Oct. 27, the Toledo Police Department said it was called to the 2500 block of Airport Highway in Toledo for a shots fired call. According to TPD, officers arrived and found 24-year-old Zayn Disher suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and he later died at the hospital.

According to TPD Investigative Services, Disher was at a party and knew the alleged shooter, 23-year-old Elijah Garza. Garza has since been arrested.

Jason Disher, Zayn’s father, said he leaves behind two young children and a booming business.

“About 500 people came to his funeral,” Disher said. “It just showed how much he was loved. It was honest.”

Zayn’s childhood best friend, Darrell Reuscher, said he doesn’t know how he’ll do without him.

“For the last five years we’ve been together every day,” Reuscher said. “I lost a big part of my life, that’s for sure. I don’t know what I’ll do without him, he’s my best friend.”

His family said they want the community to remember Zayn’s work ethic and smile. They plan to continue their business of buying and towing junk cars.

A judge set Garza’s bond at $1 million without interest.
