A 19-year-old Muncy woman was being treated at UPMC Williamsport for injuries she suffered when the southbound motorcycle she was riding upset on Sulfur Springs Road, about 4 miles south of South Williamsport, at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, according to police state. .

The woman, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from her bike and thrown down a 35-foot embankment.

Once on scene, emergency personnel quickly descended the embankment and began to assess and treat her injuries.

From the road, firefighters used a Z-rope rigging system to lower a panel and a Stokes chimney over the terrace to first responders below. Emergency workers loaded the injured cyclist into the basket, which was then lifted back onto the road. The woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The narrow, winding road was closed by the state Department of Transportation for an hour because of the accident.
