Devastated Harris voters conclude America hates women as Trump defeats second female rival

Democratic-voting Americans say they feel reaffirmed in their belief that a majority of the United States would prefer anyone other than a woman for president after Kamala Harris lost at Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

On social media, Harris voters shared feelings of disappointment and sadness that she she will not make history as the first female US president.

But what apparently resonated with hundreds of thousands of people were posts written in anger that a convicted, twice-indicted, four-times-indicted man had prevailed.

“The only thing America hates more than a rapist is a woman.” wrote a user X garnering over 600,000 likes and 100,000 reposts.

“I don’t know why I’m always shocked to rediscover how deeply our country hates women” wrote another.

Earlier this year, Hillary Clinton said she hoped Harris would do what he couldn’t and defeat Trump to break America’s “tallest and toughest glass ceiling.” But as swing states fell to Trump one by one on Tuesday night, it became increasingly clear that was not to be the case.

On the surface, Wednesday’s results mimic the sentiment of the 2016 presidential election when Trump beat Clinton despite the fact that she is the favorite candidate with more political experience and less radical policy proposals.

But there seems to be a much deeper sense of confusion and anger this time around, given that Trump’s eight-year political history is littered with controversies, civil and criminal cases and allegations of wrongdoing.

In 2020, voters appeared ready to abandon the former president who refused to yield to President Joe Biden and incited a violent crowd of disgruntled supporters on Capitol Hill as Congress tried to certify the election results.

That motivation appeared to strengthen after Trump took credit for the Supreme Court overturning the landmark abortion rights case Roe v. Wade in 2022 – entry into force of trigger laws across the country.

Harris’ campaign, which has run strongly on protecting reproductive rights and supporting democracy, had hoped for similar results to a Biden victory.

But the message to Democrats Wednesday morning was that it wasn’t enough to convince most of the country, especially men, to keep Trump in the past.

“When Trump wins twice against two separate women, but loses against another man, it’s not about the candidate, it’s about their hatred of women.” wrote a user X.

The former president has specifically targeted young white people throughout his campaign — entertaining influencers like Joe Rogan by joining his podcasts or YouTube shows for interviews. The so-called “brother vote” may have helped him a lot in winning the election.

“Harris’ incredibly misguided campaign aside, the way millions of young people in this country have been groomed by famous misogynists to hate and bash women is truly horrifying.” user X noticed.

“The right-wing radicalization of high school and college-age males is truly one of the biggest crises in the US and remains almost completely unaddressed,” another person echoed.
