Flooding closes I-44 east of Waynesville, Mo.

PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) – The Big Piney River in Pulaski County flooded I-44 east of Waynesville Wednesday morning.

Eastbound and westbound lanes are closed between mile markers 163 and 169 near Devils Elbow. MoDOT says the highway may not reopen until Thursday morning.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is urging drivers heading east on I-44 to exit at US Route 65 in Springfield to use US Route 60 to US Route 63 in Rolla. Westbound drivers on I-44 should exit at US Route 63 in Rolla to use US Route 60 to US Route 65 in Springfield.

The Doolittle Fire Protection District also posted on its Facebook page that westbound drivers can take Highway D at Jerome to Highway 28. The fire district said to use extreme caution due to increased tractor traffic -trailer on these roads.

As of Wednesday morning, Modot says more than 100 roads in the state are closed due to flooding. That number cannot include county roads or other local roads.
