Waffle House shooting victim’s mother wins seat in TN State House

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Frustrated with the lack of gun reform in Tennessee, a Nashville mom decided she would join the world of politics to spark change.

On Tuesday night, she cleared the first hurdle, securing her seat in Davidson County’s 60th District.

Shaundelle Brooks (D) defeated Chad Bobo (D) in Tuesday’s election.

Brooks has set his sights on running for the Tennessee State House December 2023 after saying he “saw politicians doing nothing to stop gun violence.”

Brooks’ son, Akilah Dasilva, was one of four people killed in the 2018 attack at the Waffle House in Antioch. Since the shooting, Brooks has been advocating for gun reform at the state and national level.

Brooks and Bobo won their party seats during the August primary election.
