MILL VILLAGE – A Mill Village man faces burglary and arson charges after Pennsylvania State Police say he admitted to breaking into a Dollar General store and trying to set it on fire Monday night.

Henry L. Sherwood, 71, was arraigned Tuesday morning and jailed on $1,000 bail on the charges filed by state police in the investigation into a Monday night Dollar General burglary at 2050 W. Center St. in Mill Village, according to state police. and court files.

According to state police, troopers were called to the store around 11:15 p.m. Monday to investigate an alarm and ended up finding the glass broken on a sliding front door.

Video from the store showed a person breaking the glass with a hammer and entering the store. Once inside, the person grabbed a lighter and tried to light a blanket on fire in the back of the store, state police said.

While troopers were at the store, investigators said Sherwood contacted state police and admitted to entering the store and trying to set it on fire.

Sherwood is scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on Nov. 19, according to court records. A lawyer for him was not listed on his criminal record on Wednesday.
