Kolkata Police records Mithun Chakraborty for provocative remarks at BJP programme

Kolkata: Kolkata Police have filed an FIR against award-winning actor Dadasaheb Phalke and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty following a complaint alleging that he made a highly provocative statement at a BJP organizational meeting in Kolkata last month. The event was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Sources in the city police said that on Monday evening, a person whose name has been withheld for security reasons filed a formal complaint at the Bowbazar police station in central Kolkata against the superstar, accusing him of making some statements in the organizational meeting of October 27, which can cause violence and tension.

In the complaint, the complainant has also urged the city police to take appropriate legal action against the superstar.

Later, based on that complaint, the city police filed an FIR against Chakraborty. However, it is still unclear what action the city police will take in this case.

“I am saying this in front of the Union Minister that I will do whatever is necessary for West Bengal. There are hidden meanings when I say I will do whatever it takes. A leader claims that in a certain district, there are 70% Muslims against 30% Hindus. He also said that the latter would be cut and thrown into the Bhagirathi river. Surprisingly, the Chief Minister did not say anything to him. There will come a day when I will bury you in your own land,” Chakraborty said while addressing an organizational meeting targeting Trinamool Congress legislator Humayun Kabir on this comparative population report in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district, just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections from this year.

Even the Election Commission of India, at that time, had censured Kabir for his comments and given him a show cause notice. Kabir later claimed that his comments were deliberately taken in isolation to make it seem like a threat.
