Mother accused of trying to sell newborn to ‘highest bidder’ on Facebook, police say

(Gray News) – A Texas woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to sell her newborn baby to the “highest bidder” on Facebook, according to authorities.

The investigation began Sept. 23 when Houston police received a report that 21-year-old Juniper Bryson was trying to sell her baby on a Facebook group, “Birth Mothers Looking for Adoptive Parents.”

She said she is in the Houston area but is willing to travel.

Just days earlier, Bryson reportedly reached out to a family member asking if he knew anyone who wanted to adopt, KPRC reported.

During the conversation, Bryson allegedly said her child would test positive for drugs and stated she could not keep him.

The family member posted on Facebook that a relative was looking for foster parents because she did not want the child to go into the foster care system.

Bryson’s relative told police that after posting on Facebook, Bryson repeatedly mentioned that anyone who wanted to adopt the child “would have to compensate her,” KTRK reported.

The relative told police she informed Bryson it was “illegal” and stopped trying to help her.

According to the relative, on September 24, Bryson was at the hospital with the child while waiting for the “highest bidder.”

Bryson allegedly told a couple traveling from Louisiana to be with her at the hospital that he wanted a minimum of $150 up front.

When the couple mentioned that the adoption was going through a lawyer, Bryson refused and eventually blocked it.

Meanwhile, Bryson was reportedly accompanied by other hopeful parents, including a licensed foster care provider who traveled to the hospital and was present during the birth.

When the hopeful parents found out about her alleged scheme, they confronted Bryson about it.

The 21-year-old then kicked them out of the recovery room. The couple then called Child Protective Services, who contacted the police.

Police picked up Bryson, who already had two warrants for his arrest.

Bryson was charged with the sale or purchase of a child and is currently being held on a $30,000 bond.
