Real Madrid and AC Milan pay tribute to the victims of the deadly floods in Valencia in the Champions League match

MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid and AC Milan honored the victims of the deadly floods in Valencia ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League game.

Players from both teams entered the field wearing shirts with the words “We are all Valencia” written in Spanish on Madrid’s kits and in Italian on AC Milan’s.

A giant Valencia banner was displayed in the midfield stands, covering several sections of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, while a moment of silence was observed before kick-off.

The organized group of Madrid fans also displayed a “We are all Valencia” banner behind one of the goals at the Bernabeu.

More than 200 people have died in floods caused by heavy rains in eastern Spain that ravaged the Valencia region last week, destroying almost everything in its path and leaving people stranded in vehicles, homes and businesses.

Real Madrid has donated 1 million euros to help victims affected by the unprecedented floods.

Madrid have not played a game since a 4-0 defeat by Barcelona in the Spanish league “clasico” on October 26. His weekend game at Valencia in the league was postponed due to flooding.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said in his press conference on Monday that he “doesn’t feel like talking about football” with everything going on in Valencia.

Several other sporting events in Spain were affected by the deadly floods.

Before the game, Madrid fans at the Bernabeu booed loudly when the UEFA Champions League anthem was played. This came after the club decided not to participate the Golden Ball award ceremony last week when his striker Vinícius Júnior did not win the prestigious award.
