Woman seriously injured in dog attack, police say

ALBANY, Georgia (WALB/Gray News) – A Georgia woman is in critical condition after being attacked by her neighbor’s dog, according to authorities.

According to a police report, the attack happened on Maryland Drive in Albany around 4:08 p.m. Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Elizabeth Warrener. At the time of the attack, Warrener was in her yard feeding her cats. The neighbor’s dog, which was described as brown and white, attacked her while she was in her yard.

In a press conference Monday, Albany Police Chief Michael Parsley said the dog’s owners were also bitten Saturday. He also said the dog was a pit bull.

When officers arrived at the scene of the attack, Warrener was taken to the hospital’s emergency room by EMS. An animal control officer was also notified of the attack.

An Albany police officer contacted John Warrener, the victim’s husband, who said he was inside the home at the time of the attack.

He told police that when Elizabeth Warrener entered the house after the attack, “her face was peeled off and bitten, her arm was broken and she was bleeding profusely.”

The officer said in the report that he saw large amounts of blood around the property and a brown and white dog in the yard of a neighbor’s home on Baldwin Drive.

The police then went to the emergency room to speak with the victim. Police said he had serious injuries to his arms, neck and face.

A doctor said he suffered the following injuries:

  • A broken right arm
  • puncture wounds in the neck
  • Injuries to the face and teeth
  • His left ear was partially bitten off

Elizabeth Warrener told officers she tried to fight back during the attack, but the dog continued to attack her. She said the dog usually barks, but the dog came straight after her and attacked her.
