Calgary Weather: Poor driving conditions were reported along central Alberta highways

As expected, a moisture-laden low pressure system moved into Alberta late Monday, bringing first rain, then snow as temperatures dropped.

The same frontal system produced wind gusts of 108 km/h along the BC coast and island on Monday, which, combined with rain and snow, caused a measurable impact on commuters.

By Tuesday morning, visibility was limited in the Calgary area and roads on 511 Alberta cameras appeared wet, icy and covered in snow. As of 7 a.m., roads in Medicine Hat, which remains under a snow warning, appeared to be mostly dry.

Wet snow will continue throughout Tuesday morning across central and southern Alberta, and northerly winds of 40 to 60 km/h will continue into the early afternoon.

The ambient temperature in Calgary is forecast to reach 2C, but strong northerly winds will make it feel more like -5.

A change in weather patterns will begin to raise the temperature in southern Alberta by Wednesday, and by Thursday, daytime highs are expected to reach 13C in Calgary, with temperatures above 0C overnight.

The average range for Calgary this time of year is 7 C for high and -5 C for low.
