Election security updates: Officials prepare for Election Day under a cloud of threats

Former President Donald Trump’s final campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, saw the Republican presidential candidate urge supporters to head to the polls, once again casting doubt on the security of the electoral process.

Several times throughout Trump’s speech, he told supporters to get out the vote “tomorrow.” However, as the rally was taking place after midnight, people in the crowd started chanting “today”, then Trump falsely said the election was on Wednesday.

“It sounds a lot better when you say tomorrow, Wednesday,” Trump said. “But it’s okay. I want to be accurate for them, but get out today and vote. And I think seven o’clock or whatever, whatever time it is, it doesn’t matter and we will have the best victory in the history of our country.”

Trump then suggested that his supporters might be to blame if he doesn’t defeat Vice President Kamala Harris.

“There’s nothing I can do” if Republicans show up, Trump said of his opponents. “In other words, to make you feel a little guilty, we wouldn’t just blame you.” Trump later claimed he had a “silent majority” and urged his supporters to “speak up.”

The former president again cast doubt on the security of voting machines, despite officials and experts confirming the security of the electoral system.

“Maybe I’ll be president in less than 24 hours, or maybe it’s going to take these machines that we’re paying so much for two weeks,” Trump said, arguing that paper ballots would be more cheaper, faster and safer.

“What the hell is going on inside these cars?” he continued. “If you wait, we want the answer tomorrow, tonight,” Trump said, quickly correcting himself. “We want the answer tonight.”

“You have to cheat,” Trump said of Democrats. “Who the hell is going to approve this stuff? Who will prove that open borders with criminals pouring into our country by the millions now must cheat. They have to cheat, and they do, and they do it very well, actually. “
