Harleyville woman charged in hit-and-run that killed Berkeley County Detention Deputy

A Harleyville woman has been arrested in connection with a collision hit and run that resulted in the death of a Berkeley County Detention Deputy early Monday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Jessica Ann Goodwin, 30, has been charged with hit-and-run with death, Constable Nick Pye said.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Sergeant Devon Lindsay, 26, who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the collision. He worked at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center and was reporting for work when he was hit, deputies said.

Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell confirmed Sgt. Lindsay was wearing a helmet.
