A Horseheads man died in a one-car crash Saturday morning after his vehicle veered off State Road 414, striking an embankment and several trees, according to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened near Rockwell Road around 7:15 a.m. when deputies and first responders from Beaver Dams Rescue arrived to find the driver deceased at the scene.

The victim, identified as 55-year-old Donald E. Lincoln, suffered fatal injuries when his vehicle left the roadway. After an investigation, authorities concluded that speed and the lack of a seat belt contributed to the severity of the accident.

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office noted that the investigation remains open and advised that further updates may follow as new information becomes available.
