North Dakota Election Results 2024

(NewsNation) — Voters in North Dakota will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots in some key 2024 general election races.

In addition to voting in the race for the White House between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala HarrisNorth Dakotans will also vote for a new governor as well as a seat in the U.S. Senate and consider a ballot measure dealing with voter power in the upcoming election.

Governor’s race in North Dakota

Republican Gov. Doug Burgum announced in January that he would not seek a third term.

Democratic state Sen. Merrill Piepkorn will face Republican U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong along with independent Michael Coachman. Before being elected to the state Senate, Piepkorn worked for 16 years as a Prairie Public Radio personality. Armstrong, meanwhile, held the state’s only seat in the US House.

Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer is seeking re-election against Democrat Katrina Christiansen, an assistant professor of engineering at the University of Jamestown.

Cramer unseated former Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in 2018. Christianson previously ran for U.S. Senate in 2022.

While Armstrong is seeking to become governor, Republican Julie Fedorchak and Democrat Trygve Hammer are vying for a seat in the US House. Fedorchak is a longtime member of the North Dakota Public Service Commission, while Hammer is a former Navy and fighter pilot who worked as a train conductor before seeking public office.

North Dakota statewide ballot measure

The votes will decide a state constitutional amendment that would require ballot initiatives to be approved in both primary and general elections.

On Tuesday, 468 seats in the US Congress (33 seats in the Senate and all 435 seats in the House) are up for election.

Polls close at 7pm local time in North Dakota, which holds three electoral votes.

North Dakota has voted reliably Republican in presidential races for decades. Trump beat President Joe Biden in the state by 33 percentage points in 2020.
