Judge allows Elon Musk’s $1 million gifts to continue

In a victory for the Republican National Committee, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled Monday that thousands of voters whose mail-in ballots were delayed will not have additional time to send them back.

The court’s ruling overturned a lower judge’s ruling that granted 3,000 voters an extension of the mail-in deadline after Cobb County election officials admitted they missed the deadline to mail them.

The deadline for mail-in ballots to be received in Georgia is Election Day — but the lower judge gave those voters an extension to get them postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 8, same deadline for overseas ballots.

The RNC appealed the ruling, saying it was a violation of election code and that voters still have other ways to vote, including in person.

The Georgia Supreme Court ordered the Cobb board to “keep” the absentee ballots of those voters that are received after the deadline on Election Day but before Nov. 8 “in a safe, secure and sealed container, separate from the other ballots voted”.

Cobb County was previously ordered to ship all late ballots by Nov. 1 via express shipping and overnight return envelopes.

The court also ordered the board to notify voters by email, text or public notice of the change.
