A man has died in a car crash on Highway 41 in Fresno County, the CHP says

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in a crash that killed a Fresno County man.

It happened after 9 p.m. Sunday at Highway 41 and Mountain View Boulevard.

The California Highway Patrol says 25-year-old Robert Garcia was speeding in a Camaro northbound on Highway 41 when he ran a red light and collided with a Nissan SUV.

A 34-year-old woman and two children were inside the vehicle.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities initially identified Garcia as an 18-year-old, but later clarified his age.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The two children are said to be fine.

Investigators say after Garcia collided with the woman’s car, it also hit a light pole, splitting the vehicle in two.

A portion of Highway 41 and Mountain View Boulevard was closed while the scene was investigated.
