The coroner identifies a bicyclist killed in a Halloween night crash in the Hollywood area

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The Charleston County Coroner has released the name of the Hollywood man killed when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle Thursday night.

Gregg Edwards, 66, died at about 7:14 p.m. at the scene of the crash near New Road, Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said. Edwards died from blunt force injuries he suffered in the crash, O’Neal said.

Deputies responded to New Road and Chad Lane in Hollywood just after 7 p.m. for a reported collision, sheriff’s spokesman Alexis Douglas said.

Investigators say a car traveling eastbound on New Road struck the bicyclist heading in the same direction, sending the bicyclist into a ditch.

Witnesses attempted lifesaving measures while waiting for emergency responders, however the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say anyone with information about this incident that could help with the investigation should call them at 843-202-1700.
