No bail for teenager accused of shooting and killing 14-year-old in Aberdeen

BEL AIR, Md. — A report of a shooting just before midnight Saturday in the 200 block of Center Deen Avenue in Aberdeen led police to an injured teenager in cardiac arrest.

“Our officers responded to the scene and found a 14-year-old male suffering from head trauma,” said Capt. Will Reiber of the Aberdeen Police Department, “They did all the life-saving measures they could and , unfortunately, Jai’Den Winchester. a 14-year-old, died.”

A total of five people were reportedly in a car when the victim said something to the alleged attacker and he responded in kind before shooting Winchester.

According to the suspect’s attorney, two people inside that car said the 16-year-old immediately said, “it was an accident. it was an accident.”

“The people who knew both the people involved, both Jai’Den and the suspect who was charged, so there is familiarity,” Reiber said, “This is a group that knows each other, so there are conversations that have place, the validity of which must be established. .”

A lawyer for the teenager accused of murder today asked for home detention, but the judge ultimately refused bail.

The state claims the 16-year-old returned to the car for 10 seconds and reached for the gun to get rid of it, which prosecutors point out was not consistent with someone accidentally shooting someone.

The accused teenager’s parents and brother left Bel Air District Court without comment.
