Marine recruiter arrested in California for allegedly sexually assaulting teenage girl he met at her school

An active activity Marine Corps the recruiter was arrested last week for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at a recruitment center in California, according to the service and local law enforcement authorities.

Sgt. Jorge Larapedroza was arrested on October 29, a day after he allegedly committed the attack in Sunnyvale, California, where he was arrested for several crimes, including “oral intercourse, penetration with a foreign object and arranging to meet a minor with intent. to engage in sexual behavior,” according to a press release from the city’s public safety department.

Larapedroza, a native of Virginia, met the alleged victim at a recruiting event at her school about a week before the reported assault, the news release said. A Navy spokesman said he has been relieved of his duties as a recruiter pending an investigation into his alleged misconduct.

“Marine Corps Recruiting Station San Francisco, part of Marine Corps District 12, has been notified that Sergeant Jorge Larapedroza was arrested on October 29, 2024, on allegations of sexual assault,” Capt. Tess LaBossiere, 12th spokeswoman. Marine Corps District, told Military.com in an email Monday.

“The Marine Corps takes any allegation of misconduct very seriously and cooperates fully with law enforcement authorities,” she said. “We are concerned about any conduct that is inconsistent with military and civilian law, with our core values, or that has the potential to violate the public trust.”

News station SFGATE reported last week that Marinei was being held on $245,000 bond.

Larapedroza enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2016 and served as an aircraft avionics technician, according to service records provided to Military.com. He has been stationed at Recruiting Station San Francisco since 2021.

The Department of Defense strictly prohibits recruiters from having inappropriate relationships with young people who want to join the service to prevent abuse by service members in uniform, who are supposed to lead the next generation of troops in the military.

The arrest follows another Navy case of recruiter misconduct former artillery sergeant. Christopher Champagne37 years old, was sentenced last month to one year in prison, reduction of rank and a dishonorable discharge after engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a teenage recruit.

The family of the victim in that case said Champagne groomed, sexually assaulted and abused the teenager for more than a year. Champagne wrote a self-published “memorial,” detailing in part his own inappropriate relationship with the recruit.
