3 vehicle pursuits, 4 arrests in Fond du Lac County overnight Saturday into Sunday

FOND DU LAC COUNTY – Three unrelated car chases kept Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deputies busy overnight from 2 to 3 November.

The first occurred at 9:44 p.m., Nov. 2, when a deputy attempted a traffic stop on County G near County SS in the Town of Auburn for a speeding violation. The vehicle did not respond to the deputy’s lights and sirens, increasing speed and flashing its headlights in an attempt to elude the deputy.

The pursuit continued south until the vehicle approached the intersection of Youth Camp Road and County S and, unable to control the vehicle, crashed into a cemetery near the intersection.

The driver, an 18-year-old Waukesha man, was taken into custody without incident, as was a passenger.

The Kewaskum Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene and EMS personnel medically removed both suspects and released them into the custody of deputies.

The suspect’s vehicle was significantly damaged in the crash, which also caused property damage to several gravestones in the cemetery. No squad cars or other vehicles were damaged in the pursuit.

The chase lasted about 4.5 miles. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted in the incident.

The second pursuit ended with the arrest of a 19-year-old man

At 12:23 a.m., Nov. 3, a Fond du Lac County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding violation on Interstate 23 near County I. The deputy activated his lights and sirens, and this driver increased speed and stopped the vehicle. headlights in an attempt to flee.

The pursuit lasted approximately 3 miles before the suspect turned onto a dead end road and attempted to hide behind a closed business. Deputies pursued the vehicle and took the driver, a 19-year-old man from Fond du Lac, into custody without incident.

The City of Fond du Lac Police Department assisted at the scene.

The suspect in the third pursuit fled on foot after disabling the vehicle

At 2:03 a.m. Nov. 3, a deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle on Interstate 41 near Lost Arrow Road for having no license plates displayed. At lights and sirens, the vehicle increased its speed.

After a 1-mile pursuit, the suspect exited US 151 and attempted to make a right turn, but lost control of the vehicle and exited, becoming stuck in the grass median on the divided highway. The driver got out of the car and fled on foot.

Unable to locate the driver at the time of the crash, the Fond du Lac Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in an attempt to locate the driver and positively identified the suspect as a Fond du Lac man aged 22 years.

Deputies were able to take him into custody around 10 a.m. Nov. 3.
