Jeffries will become speaker of the House if Democrats win back control of the chamber this week.

“The majority of current House Republicans voted not to certify the 2020 election,” Jeffries said. “My colleagues across the aisle do not seem to be able to say unequivocally that they will certify the election and the verdict of the American people.”

“As House Democrats, that’s what we’re going to do,” Jeffries added.

“We believe in democracy even when we disagree with the outcome. That was part of what made America the greatest democracy in the history of the world.”
