Men threaten trash workers on Broadway, police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man is accused of threatening trash workers on Broadway early Sunday morning.

Workers from Recycling Solutions were picking up trash in an alley near 4th Avenue and Broadway around 12:30 p.m.

They told officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department that several people climbed into the back of the garbage truck while it was in the driveway.

The workers told them not to sit on the back of the truck. They told police the men complied and got out of the back of the truck.

The workers told police that one of the men began threatening them both, saying, “Let’s fight.”

The workers told police they repeatedly told the men to leave the premises and that they did not want to fight, but another man joined in the threats.

The police report says the situation escalated when both men removed something from their suspenders.

The workers told police they could not say what the objects were, but believed them to be a knife or a crowbar, and said one of the men began to close the distance between them.

One of the scavengers told the police, out of fear, he pulled the gun on the men. They started running. Officers were able to catch them and take them into custody on 4th Avenue at Molloy Street.

While being taken into custody, a witness told officers the men were seen throwing knives at that intersection.

Police at the scene were given video footage of the incident which confirmed the confrontation between the Recycling Solutions workers and the men. Police said it was unclear in the video what was in their hands.

Both men face aggravated assault with a weapon charges.
