The helicopter helps lifeguards rescue fishermen stranded by the tide

A lifeboat crew rescued two stranded fishermen and a dog from a Cornish beach with the help of a coastguard helicopter.

The men were swept away by the surf near Lushington Beach in Porthtowan on Sunday, with an eyewitness reporting a man had fallen onto the rocks and dislocated a shoulder.

The helicopter from Newquay, which was in the area on training, spotted the men at around 16:30 GMT and alerted colleagues.

Tom Bolt, from Falmouth Coastguard, said RNLI lifeguards from Porthtowan used a coastal boat to rescue the men before the helicopter paramedic examined them while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
